Journey to the Life Kingdomby =Pharan

This is a scene-ish thing of =mangaka7's story called Rising Sword. The character you see here is the same character on this character sheet.

I did this for several days with long intermittent breaks in the painting process because of schoolwork, but I think I'll call this done... or "resolved". (right, cheri?) Total hours spent on it, I'm really not sure.

I'm still fooling around with painting techniques (there was a crapload of trial-and-error involved) and I have to admit that I made a lot of mistakes in my process here, especially since I got too excited early on. It also has a lot of composition problems that I only noticed halfway through.

But I learned a lot from (my mistakes in) painting this. I dunno if I'll be able to get most of it right next time but I'll try to do something better then.

Hahah, wow, at first glance I see nothing wrong. I'm just jealous that I can't paint like that. Then I start readin' comments and seein' some things. Overall, it's pretty damn good. I'm not really sure about the lighting complaints, but then again, I never color backgrounds. Keep up the good work!

omigoodness! you just randomly pop up out of nowhere and start submitting this kind of things! Your practice has done you magic! The background looks really detailed..yet still a bit loose. And I think the character has really great shading and schtuff!!! the only thing i see weird is the relationship between the character and the background. The leaves are blowing but his/her hair and clothes aren't...maybe we can call them magical floating leaves then...yeah, that would be ok too.

haha! you got me there. I actually drew the character first. I didn't have the background in mind when I drew her.

I actually also originally intended cel-shading for the character against the background to make it look like an anime still.. but.. I guess I got carried away. XD

Beautiful background.

There's a patch of trees on center right that look just like patches of blurred trees. x_x I don't know, it's bothering me. lol.
The highlights on the cape look a little weird, and I think that the rocks need brighter highlights.
I like the transparency of the cape.

I think it worked well.
Really well done!

awesome work, must have taken a lot of time

the light seems a very little bit weird, perhaps to soft, or perhaps the soft shadowing of the first plan , like the rocks and the tree, not contrasting enough with the strong sun on the farther elements

but I do seem to have some unnatural tendency toward over-contrasted stuff
