I'm really not used to CGing this kind of lighting. I needed a few tries just to get it to look even remotely streetlight-ish. In retrospect, I think it could've been much better with even harder shadows.
I was also trying different SAI brush settings but I failed. ('cause it still looks the same as my recent inks.) I was hoping to get some lines that look better with this type of CG style. T_T
Holy Moses this is awesome! I have to say you've really done him justice in my eyes. Loving the air of mystery about him and the grubby, urban setting is spot on. I also quite like the addition of little details such as the wrinkled material on the boots and the belts around the coat collar and sleeves. The slightly tighter trousers suit him as well.
Given the spot-light effect of the light source, harder shadows probably would have suited the picture more. Maybe a more intense highlight for the floor surrounding him too, though I can't be certain about that since I'm not sure where the streetlight is situated in relation to the scene.
It looks seriously cool though, I'm really pleased with it! Thanks very much for drawing him. I'll be making a start on Franz this weekend, so should have something up soon.
Oh damn. You're right! XD I wouldn't how how to begin to add good looking highlights on the ground though. I'll definitely look into it when I'm browsing around pictures and other artwork on dA. Seems like something really important to learn. The light source looks so ambiguous without it. T_T
Streetlights and spotlights are always a pain to draw for me because they're so intensely concentrated in one place. Still, the light from behind Lu looks correct to me assuming the streetlight is just behind him, so it might be a case of keeping his shadow the way it is and making a brighter circle on the ground just behind him.
I've still got a long way to go with lighting and shade in my drawing though, you're way ahead of anything I'm capable of right now.
